  2. General Objectives • Create awareness among sunflower Oil processors • Create local and International markets for Sunflower Oil • Upgrading capacity of Sunflower processing industry through processing, refining, packaging and marketing

  3. Dodoma region as Potential area for Sunflower Oil Cluster Location PRODUCTION OF SEED OIL Dodoma is the second to Singida in terms of Sunflower Oil seeds production. Headquarter of the Central Zone Sunflower Oil Processors Association (CEZOSOPA) and TASUPA • Dodoma region is Centrally Located • The main Local Market for Sunflower Oil (Dar es Salaam,Arusha,Morogoro,Iringa,Mbeya and even Tanga)

  4. Cont’ BIG NUMBER OF SUNFLOWER PROCESSORS CONT’ 5 Processors in Bahi District • Dodoma has big number of Sunflower Oil Processors. • 40 Processors found in Dodoma Municipality • 12 Processors in Mpwapwa District • 23 Processors in Kondoa District • 8 Processors in Kongwa District

  5. Challenges for Sunflower Oil Processors In Dodoma Region • Working premises • Meeting the standards such as TBS,TFDA • Lack of Markets- Supplying chain prefer double refined edible oils • Packaging and branding- Packaging material are so expensive and not easy available • Financial support

TECHNOLOGY DEVELOPMENT Technology and Product development through SIDO TDCs • Mini Oil refinery developed by SIDO TDC Iringa which has the capacity of 500lts per batch/1hour (The Machinery use Biomass, electricity of 3ph-1010hp • Development of Innovative Cluster formation for Sunflower Oil in Dodoma region • Technical Advisory Services

  8. Small Industries Development Organization (SIDO) through Ministry of Industries and Trade in collaboration of Japanese International Cooperation Agency (JICA) will develop sunflower Oil Cluster in Dodoma region as a strategy to upgrade the Sunflower Oil Industry in Tanzania

  9. Main Objective Strengthen Processing Capacities of Agriculture Produce and Upgrade the capacity of sunflower processing industries through processing, refining, packaging and marketing The Cluster will be established in Dodoma region at SIDO Plot 125 Western Industrial Area

  10. Con’t SIDO will develop a site plan and infrastructure such as electricity and water and one building as Industrial modal The cluster Management will be in the form of Cluster Union The initial investment done by SIDO will be recovered through form of rent

  11. Con’t The Operation and Management of the Cluster will be undertaken by SIDO then shall be transferred to the cluster union i.e. TASUPA or CEZOSOPA if well organized and formally registered.

  12. MARKETING AND INFORMATION • Designing and publication of promotional materials • Organizing Exhibition/Trade fairs- various processors participated exhibitions organized by SIDO and other institutions nationally and Internationally • Establishing display/information centers i.e. SIDO Dodoma information Centre as marketing tool

  13. BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT & EXTENSION SERVICES • Provision of business Advisory and Consultancy Services to processors • Industrial Extension Services • Link SMEs to Business Services Providers i.e. TBS,TFDA,BRELA • Providing Entrepreneurship skills training

  14. FINANCIAL SERVICES • Provision of Credit Funds through SIDO National Entrepreneurship Development Fund (NEDF) and SIDO LVIA Funds • 19.5ml disbursed to Sunflower oil Processors in Dodoma region to date. • Linkage to financial institutions like NMB,TIB

  15. SIDO INTERVENSION THROUGH ODOP PROGRAMME ODOP- One District One Product strategy Strategy to create sustainable impact in rural areas The aim is to industrialize rural areas hence create employment and reduce inflow of youth to town and big cities.

Con’t Products to be developed and promoted are district specific based resources SIDO is working with Regional and District Authorities and Development Partners in the districts to support identification and development of products which have market potential and support the entire economy of the Districts

  17. PRODUCTS SELECTED UNDER ODOP IN DODOMA REGION Kondoa District- Sunflower Oil Chamwino District- Sunflower Oil SIDO Interventions in the above Districts • Sunflower Oil Clusters in Kondoa and Chamwino Districts • Both District Councils will provide land to SIDO for development.
