About the Institute of Education (IoE) One of the largest UK providers of Initial Teacher Education (ITE) and Continuing Professional Development (CPD) for Teachers and Further, Adult and Higher Education lecturers, Youth Workers, Careers Advisers, Education Managers, Early Childhood specialists and Teaching Assistants, at undergraduate and postgraduate level. www.ioe.mmu.ac.uk

International Activities • The Institute welcomes applications from international students, as they not only bring social and cultural diversity to the Institute, they also broaden the Institute’s perspectives on education. • Over 100 international students a year enrol on a range of programmes. This number includes about 50 undergraduate and 20 graduate students per year, studying at the Institute on European Commission funded grants. • A number of programmes have been taught outside the UK by Institute staff, including professional studies courses in Pakistan, literacy programmes in India and Sri Lanka and science and maths education programmes in Indonesia, Slovenia and Greece. • The Institute has hosted delegations from the USA, China and a number of other Asian countries as well as individual visitors from Europe, South Africa, Australia and Kashmir. www.ioe.mmu.ac.uk

  14. Professional Development • For qualified teachers, there is a range of part-time courses which can be studied as qualifications in their own right or credited towards a first or higher degree. Students can construct their own professional development routes to achieve undergraduate and postgraduate awards. • The Institute has well-developed links to plan and deliver Continuing Professional Development in the same schools who deliver initial teacher education courses. • We offer a wide range of courses for serving teachers and other professionals in education leading to awards from certificate to Master's levels. Courses for serving teachers emphasise the development of reflective practice and involve practitioners undertaking enquiries into their everyday practices and gives recognition and accreditation for school-based professional development. www.ioe.mmu.ac.uk
