  3. What is My Southeast Portal • The portal is your entry to access your on-line information from Southeast Missouri State University • It offers you cutting edge technology that simplifies and personalizes your internet experience!

Why would I want to use the portal? • It is your on-line personal link to the University. • This is where you will: • Use e-mail • Receive important campus announcements • Check your class schedule • Personalize your own links to other sites • Set up a personal calendar • Receive pertinent campus news via the NewsSource • Check your account balance • Enroll in classes • And more…

  5. Where is the portal located? There are two ways to access the portal. • Go to: • the Southeast homepage: http://www.semo.edu • click the My Southeast tab • In the Login to Your Personal Account, click the UI-100 link • Or: Type http://portal.semo.edu in your web browser

  6. How do I gain entry to the portal? • Use your Southeast Key and password • The Southeast Key allows a single sign on for a secure connection to your information

  7. Where do I go for help? • IT Open computer lab assistants in Towers, Dempster, Kent, Crisp, or Magill are trained to assist you • An on-line Help icon is available in the portal • IT Help Desk staff are available for assistance. Call 573-651-4357 (HELP) or e-mail helpdesk@semo.edu

  8. What browser requirements are needed to access the portal? • At a minimum, you must use one of the following browsers:

  10. First Step: Logging In • Entry to the portal begins at the login page • Log in using your Southeast Key and password

Four tabs have been provided for you: Campus My Tab My Courses Student Click on the tabs to navigate between categorical information and services Campus-Default tab always on left & on top Contains Personal Announcements NewsSource Group affiliation announcements Campus Wide News items that affect campus Example: Henderson street closed due to repairs Southeast News Current general campus news Tabs

Channels • Each tab contains several channels • Channels have unique titles pertinent to the information contained within • Some channels can be removed; others are permanent • There are three icons in the upper right corner of each channel • Focus: maximizes the channel in its own window. • Minimize: Closes the contents in the channel but retains the channel title. Minimize works as a toggle; will become a maximize button for the channel that has been minimized. • Remove: Deletes the channel from the tab. If grayed out, this feature is not available; the channel can not be removed. Channels will appear once you log on again unless you remove the channel using the content/layout application.

  15. Modifying the Content/Layout • Using the Content/Layout link will provide options to modify your tabs, channels, or columns • Modifications include adding, editing, moving, & permanently removing tabs, channels, or columns

  16. Tips for Modifying Content/Layout • As you add tabs, the tabs will move horizontally across your window. Numerous tabs may result in a requirement of scrolling horizontally to view all tabs. • Placing more than three columns is not recommended due to the reduction of column width available with each additional column. This could result in an increase in scrolling to view the content in each column.

  17. Directions for Modifying Content/Layout • Click on the Content/Layout link in the portal navigation area: upper left hand corner • To add a tab, click on the Add Tab button • To add a column, click on the Add Column button located in the area you would like the new column to be placed

To add a channel, click on the Add Channel button in the column and site you would like the new channel to be placed Select a category: Click on the appropriate category or select all categories to see a complete list of channels available. To Move a Channel There are four directional arrows If the arrow is gray, you can not move the channel in the indicated direction If the arrow is black, click on the arrow and the channel will move to the new location To Permanently Remove a Channel You must be in the Content/Layout page to permanently remove a channel Click on the X in the upper right corner of the channel Once removed, the channel remains in your channel list and can be added to your page at any time Directions for Modifying Con’t

  20. Calendar • The calendar application in the portal allows you to access & manage your class, activity, or work schedule from the web

  21. Add events or tasks Set up reoccurring events (classes) or tasks (laundry) E-mail yourself a reminder of an event or task View your calendar in daily, weekly, monthly, or yearly mode Create more than one calendar (School, Work, Social) Calendar Features

LogOut • It is criticalthat you end your portal session by logging out: click on the Logout icon in the upper right corner of the portal • Logging out prevents access by others to your information • Closing the browser does not log you out • If logged out properly, you will be returned to the login page • Using the browser back and forward buttons does not end your portal session—only logging out can end your session
