  2. Entry Plan Summary The Purpose of the plan was to:-Introduce myself to the MHS community-Meet people-Study our school-Understand our strengths-Understand where we should focus improvement efforts

  4. Where I’ve Been - Site Council Meetings - Puente Family Night- PTA Meetings - School Play- Concerts- School Board Meetings - Sports, Sports, Sports!- Cypress and Fullerton College Breakfasts- Most importantly, hundreds of classes

  5. Our Strengths - Great Staff! - Students are happy- Puente - Music programs- Activities program - Athletic program- JROTC - AVIDMagnolia is a comfortable school for our students, and they love being here.

  6. Some of Our Challenges - Too many kids failing- The “plague of low expectations” - Too many struggling English Learners - Poor parent involvement - Campus and landscape - Discipline and follow-through- Few alternatives for unsuccessful students

  7. How Things Get Done Here • We have been left to find our direction- Our parents have not engaged – yet- Our district has not mandated common assessments across all core subjects – yet- Motivated people have had the chance to build programs (A-Team, Puente, AVID)

  8. We should continue to.. • Support our incredible staff- Support our Puente and AVID programs and consider growing them- Promote and grow our arts courses- Refine our career and technical educationpathways- Grow participation in activities and athletics- Maintain open, honest communication

  9. Some Directions - Complete an honest WASC Self-Study and develop our own plans for achieving dramatic improvement in academic achievement - Create consistent, school-wide interventions - Enact a comprehensive program for our English learners - Make our school more family friendly
