  7. Battle of San Jacinto • Santa Anna had over 300 more Texans executed at Golidad • Texan general, Sam Houston gathered more troops, 800 in all. • They met Santa Anna at San Jacinto. • Their battle cry was, “Remember the Alamo!” • Santa Anna was forced to sign a treaty giving Texas its freedom

  9. Election of 1844 • Presidential candidate James Polk believed strongly in Manifest Destiny, and he favored annexingOregon and Texas. • His Presidential slogans were: “Fifty-Four Forty or Fight” and President James K. Polk “All of Oregon or None”

  10. • After winning the election, James K. Polk and Great Britain compromised by dividing Oregon at latitude 49 degrees north. Today, This line still serves as the border between the U.S. and Canada.
