deflect (verb) MEANING EXAMPLE • to make something go in a different direction • One way to deflect an asteroid headed for Earth is to hit it with a spacecraft. • In karate or boxing it is important to deflect the opponent’s kicks and punches.
justify (verb) MEANING EXAMPLE • to show that something is fair or reasonable • Many people think the benefits of solar power justify the cost of installing solar panels. • Even if you didn’t start the fight, you will have to justify your reasons for hitting that boy so many times.
