  2. TIMELINESS TO TREATMENT • How to improve • Identify problem • What are we doing right? • Develop several problem solutions • Pick most likely to succeed • Implement correction for problem • Measure change

  3. TIMELINESS TO TREATMENT • All specimens are shipped three times per week • All shipments are overnight delivery 24 hours or less. • Ohio Department of Health Laboratory (ODHL) runs 99.6% of specimens within 48 hours of receipt and faxes back results same day.

  4. TIMELINESS TO TREATMENT • Background: • Home Rule State • Ohio Revised Code • Public Health: General duties of director of health covered by 3701.3 • Ohio Administrative Code • Reporting of Communicable Diseases 3701-3-01 through 3701-3-06

  5. TIMELINESS TO TREATMENT • Identify problem: • Reviewed entire process to see why we had low reporting for treatment. • Identified three major problems • 1. No reporting from site to Local H.D. • 2. No reporting for treatment from Local H.D to State H. D. • 3. Back log of treatment entry into Ohio Disease Reporting System (ODRS) of 6-8 months.

  6. TIMELINESS TO TREATMENT • Meeting with Bureau of Information & Operational Support (BIOS) • Reiterated 6-8 month backlog on data entry. • Suggested local site be given to Ohio Disease reporting System (ODRS) • Entry of treatment on local level

  7. TIMELINESS TO TREATMENT • Meeting with pilot agency • Planned Parenthood of Northeast Ohio to discuss entry of ODRS treatment at 14 of their sites. • Set up ODRS webinar for training of staff • Set up entry time frame • Monitor for treatment timeliness

  8. TIMELINESS TO TREATMENT • IPP Coordinator to continue with reporting recommendations as directed in the Disease Control Manual • S.T.D. Supervisor & IPP Coordinator to send out reporting information to all IPP and STD sites in directory. Stressing Treatment Type & Date

  9. TIMELINESS TO TREATMENT • IPP Coordinator to Contact Local Health Districts on reporting Treatment for at least IPP Sites into ODRS. • IPP Coordinator to work with BIOS and PPNEO to set up direct entry. • Project epidemiologist and IPP Coordinator will monitor change in Performance Measure on a half year basis.

  10. TIMELINESS TO TREATMENT If review by Project Epidemiologist and IPP Coordinator shows improvement for the sites that are entering ODRS treatment data than IPP Coordinator will recruit additional sites to enter treatment data into ODRS.
