  26. Drawing Shapes Drawing Quadrilaterals & Polygons Learning Intention Success Criteria • To be able to : • Bisect a line at right angles. • Bisect an angle. • Draw a 60o angle. • We are learning how to bisect a line at right angles. • How to bisect and angle. • How to draw 60o angle. www.mathsrevision.com Created by Mr. Lafferty Maths Dept.

  27. Bisecting a line at right angles • Ruler 2. Compass 3. Pencil & Paper Toolkit required Created by Mr. Lafferty Maths Dept.

  28. 2 cut Bisecting a line at right angles How to find the midpoint between to points XY using a pair of compasses. Created by Mr. Lafferty Maths Dept.

  29. Bisecting a line at right-angles Step 1: Draw line XY = 4cm Step 2: Set your compass to a size greater than half of XY say (3cm). Draw an arc, centre P and another arc centre Q. A X Y Step 3: Join the 2 points A and B where the arcs intersect. This will be the MIDPOINT of XY. B

  30. 2 cut Bisecting an angle How to bisect an angle using a compass. Created by Mr. Lafferty Maths Dept.

  31. Step 1: With centre Q and using any radius say (3cm), draw an arc, cutting PQ at M and QR at N. What shape is QMTN ? Rhombus Bisecting an angle P M T xo xo Q R N Step 2: With the same radius as above, draw an arc centre M and another, centre N. Where they meet call it T. Step 3: Join QT. This line will cut ∠PQRin half.

  32. Drawing a 60o angle How to draw a 60o angle using a compass. Created by Mr. Lafferty Maths Dept.

  33. Step 4: The 2 arcs intersect at Z. Join X to Z. Drawing a 60o angle Step 1: Draw a line XY , say 5cm. Z If we connected YZ together what special shape would we get ? Equilateral Triangle 60o X Y Step 2: With radius XY draw an arc centre X. Step 3: With radius XY draw an arc centre Y.
