  7. ROARS Read & underline the question. Draw a circle around numbers. If in word form, write the number above. Annotate the word problem by “boxing” the key words. Represent the word problem: picture, chart/table, list, pattern, number sentence, or work the problem backwards. Solve and check the answer! Is it reasonable AND logical?

  8. A company received orders for 1,000 • Pencils, and then a batch of orders came in • for 4,000 more. The company has 1,500 pencils • in stock, but 8,000 pencils are due in next week. • How many pencils will the company have in stock • after this shipment comes in and has fulfilled all • Orders?

  9. Charlie’s job is to set up tailgating tents • At the Grove for every home football game at • Ole Miss. Each tent must be assembled and • Staked in the ground. Also with the tent, comes • Two tables, six chairs, a television set and power • Strips. It takes Charlie about 30 minutes to set • Up each tent site. How many hours will it take • Charlie and 9 of his co-workers to set up 426 tent • sites? Round your answer to the nearest hour.

  10. 3) Bailey received 100 dollars from her parents for her birthday. She spent $60 on some new clothes. She mowed her grandpa’s lawn and earned $15. She decided to go play miniature golf and spent $23. She also went to a movie Friday and spent $16. How much money does she have left?

  11. 4) A salesman bought a case of 48 backpacks for $576. He sold 17 of them for $18 each at the swap meet, and the rest were sold to a department store for $25 each. How much was the salesman’s profit?

  12. 5) A moving company is hired to take 578 clay pots to a florist shop. The florist will pay the company a $200 fee, plus $1 for every pot that is delivered safely. The moving company must pay the florist $4 each for any pots that are lost or broken. If two pots are lost , four pots are broken, and the rest are delivered safely, how much should the moving company be paid?

  13. 6) A football team ran the following plays. On the first play, a running back gained 26 yards. Then, the quarterback threw a pass for an additional seven yards. On the third play, the quarterback was sacked for a huge loss of ten yards! The team tried to run again but lost two more yards. On the next play the team gain 17 yards. What was the teams net gain or loss?

  14. 7) On Friday morning the temperature in Buffalo, NY was 29⁰. A cold front moved in dropping the temperature 23⁰ and leaving six feet of snow. On Saturday the temperature rose 3 ⁰ every hour for 7 hours. Calculate the final temperature in Buffalo NY.

  15. 8) A roller coaster starts at Point A. It goes up 20 feet, down 32 feet, then up 16 feet to Point B. Find the height at Point B in relation to Point A. Explain its meaning.

  16. 9) A submersible is diving from the surface of the water at a rate of 90 feet per minute. After 7 minutes of diving the vessel stops to take pictures and gather some data on five great white sharks. The vessel then dive another 725 feet, stops for a white shark and begins an ascent of 1,100 feet. Write an integer to represent the sea level of the vessel?

  17. 10) The cafeteria workers are making sack lunches for the 6th graders to take on a field trip. It takes about two minutes to prepare each lunch. How many hours will it take to prepare 300 lunches if five workers are helping?

  18. 11) Museum tickets cost $9 for students and $14 for adults. What is the total cost for 25 students and 6 adult chaperones to enter the museum?

  19. 12) At sunset, the temperature in Nome, Alaska is -10⁰. Over the course of the night the temperature drops 30 ⁰. As the sun begins to come out the next morning the temperature rises 26⁰. What is the current temperature?
