למרי קאסאט, ציירת אימפרסיוניסטית ( 1844- 1926 ) היו חיים פרדוקסלים: ילידת פנסילבניה - ארה"ב, היא התגוררה ועבדה רוב חייה בצרפת; הייתה ציירת קלאסית בהכשרתה אולם העדיפה את סגנונם וחברותם של ציירים רדיקלים כ – דגה, פיסארו, מונה ורנואר. היא לא נישאה מעולם ולא גידלה ילדים אך ציירה פורטרטים אהובים, רגישים וקסומים להפליא של אמהות וילדיהן. קאסאט משוייכת בסיגנונה לקבוצת האמנים האימפרסיוניסטים הצרפתית שמהם הושפעה עבודתה בשלהי המאה ה- 19 . תהנו
