  1. Physics By Ravin Randall

  2. Step 1 (given info) The first step is to evaluate the given information and what you are trying to find. m1 (puck)=.055 kg m2 (hanging mass)=.150 kg radius=.25m fg=9.8m/s Speed/velocity=?

  3. Step 2 (formula) Figure which formula you could plug the given information into and solve for the variable you are looking for. In this formula we will utilized the fact that the centripetal force is equal to the weight of the mass. Therefore... m2(fg)=m1(v2/r)

  4. Step 3 (plug and solve) This is the time when you take the information you know, plug the numbers into their appropriate places in the formula, and solve for the variable the question is asking for. Should look like…. (.150)(9.8)=(.055)(v2/.25) 1.47=.22v2 1.47/.22=v2 square root of (6.68)=square root of (v2) v=2.6

  5. Step 4 (units and smile) Do not forget your units. In this problem the answer would be 2.6 m/s. At this time you can stand up and cheer because you have successfully answered a physics problem!!
