  4. tAIWAN • Nationalists • Nationalist regime use Taiwan to keep safe from Communist revolutionary • Communists don’t have any navy, they cannot threaten Nationalists • Bombing of Nationalist islands by Communist forces • Tensions Rise and Fall • Bombing of islands by Communists raise tensions • Tensions are defused by U.S. stepping in • United States give economic aid to Taiwan • Aid to Taiwan ends in 1960s when it’s growing prosperity seems assured

FAILED and lead to economic disaster • Cultural Revolution- movement initiated by Mao to ridicule political rivals and restore faith in communism • The Red Guard- youth that Mao mobilized to criticize and slander political rivals • After Mao’s Death • Economic recovery • Social equality
