  1. 13000 BP Last glacial period ends. 11,000 BP Grass and woodlands have expanded for 1,000 years. Village established at Abu Hureyra at 11,500 BP.

  2. 10,500 BP Colder, drier conditions of the Younger Dryas cause lack of flowering fruiting, and germination of new trees. Oak trees die off around Abu Hureyra 9,000 BP Return to moister conditions allows only a partial return of vegetation. Area around Abu Hureyra is not recolonized by plants and trees.

  3. Soils processed with a froth flotation machine. Frothing agent and kerosene added to aid flotation.

  4. Abu Hureyra 1: 11,500 BP – 10,000 BP Broad spectrum foraging. Incipient agriculture during 1b and 1c periods.

  5. Abu Hureyra 2A 9,400 BP – 8,300 BP Economy is predominantly agricultural
