Who works in occupational medicine in Austria? • ca. 1600 general practitioners with diploma OM = 12 weeks OH training at an AkademiefürArbeitsmedizin • ca. 110 OM specialists • ca. 300 physicians work full time in OM • AUVA ( Austrian social insurance for occupational risks) ca. 30 occupational physicians • AUVA Sicher (for companies less than 50 employees) ca. 135

Austrian employeeprotectionlegislation • Tasks, functions of occupational physicians in companies • companies with more than 50 employees have to involve prevention specialists (occupational physicians, security experts, occupational psychologists and others) • companies with less than 50 employees: AUVA Sicher, free of charge

Calculationofworking time ofpreventionspecialists in companies • 1,2 hoursforeachofficeworker, 1,5 hoursforworkers in production, additional 0,5 hoursforeachpersonwhoworksnightshift • Company with 100 employees (30 withofficework, 70 work in theproduction, 40 ofthem do nightwork) • 160 hours /year prevention specialists, devided 56 OM, 64 security specialist, 40 others

Training of specialists for OM in Austria • 2 years common trunk • 4  years specialist training including a 12 weeks training at an AkademiefürArbeitsmedizin (2) • 14 training places in OM centers (totally 43 OM centers, mostly private or center of an enterprise, few have governmental support) • 2  training places at Medical  University Vienna,  Institute for Occupational Medicine
