Getting Ready for 4th of July in Los Angeles Getting Ready for 4th of July in Los Angeles June 21, 2018 Los Angeles is a diverse and vibrant city, and we want to help you have an authentic experience if you choose to visit us this Fourth of July. If you happen to find yourself downtown, why not check out Philippe’s? They claim to have invented French dip sandwiches, and based on how good they are, we’re inclined to believe them. Built in what used to be an old machine shop, Philippe’s boasts sinus-clearing hot mustard and a 45-cent cup of coffee. Definitely take a walk down Olvera Street, a throwback Mexican marketplace replete with street vendors, musicians and taco shops. Be sure to check out Little Tokyo and Chinatown, as well as Grand Central Market. The Disney Concert Hall is a must-see, even if you don’t actually go inside, and downtown Los Angeles is also home to a funicular known as “Angels Flight.” While you’re downtown, check out MedMen on Broadway. High ceilings and a long brick wall give it a great urban feel. A large selection of products, modern design and unparallelled customer service is what makes the MedMen shopping experience like no other. Downtown has a ton of great restaurants. Botega Louie, Bäco Mercat, Wurstküche, Honda-Ya, and KazuNori are a few of our favorite places to visit in Los Angeles. Head west into West Hollywood and visit some of the landmarks of both the rock and roll and gay rights movements. If you like ‘70s rock, check out the Chateau Marmont, rumored to be the famed “Hotel California.” Then cruise up Laurel Canyon Boulevard and discover the former homes of Frank Zappa, Neil Young, Carole King, Jim Morrison, and Joni Mitchell. If you like ‘80s rock, you’ll want to walk the length of Sunset Boulevard and check out the likes of The Whiskey-a-go-

  2. go, The Viper Room and The Roxy where bands like Guns n’ Roses, Poison, and Van Halen cut their teeth. Eat at Greenblatt’s Deli, Mel’s Drive Thru, Carney’s, Sushi Roku, Chin Chin, or SoHo House. Head down to Santa Monica Boulevard where you’ll find more great restaurants like Connie and Ted’s, Laurel Hardware, and Norah. You’ll also find MedMen’s flagship location. A large storefront and a lively scene make MedMen WeHo a must for anyone curious about the growing recreational cannabis market. After shopping, check out Hamburger Mary’s for some drag queen bingo or The Abbey for happy hour. What trip to California would be complete without the beach? An incredible coastline and gentle rollers are what made California famous. Duke’s in Malibu is a great place to sit and watch the waves, or find a spot amidst the rock formations and put your blanket down at Zuma or El Matador Beach. Download the Bird app then hop on a scooter and zip down the beach path from Santa Monica to Venice. You’ll never run out of things to do in LA. Get your face painted, swing on the rings, or jump into a beach volleyball game. It’s all happening where the street meets the sand. First Fridays in Venice, which take place on the first Friday of every month, are a local legend and a great way to eat every kind of food imaginable all within a six-block radius. Check out the Brig for local night life or Brennan’s for their world-famous turtle racing. MedMen’s newest store on Abbot Kinney Boulevard is another great stop on your coastal meanderings. On a final note, if you’re looking for a 4th of July treat that you won’t find anywhere else, on the night of July 4, head up to Mulholland or any spot that’s high up on the hill. From that vantage you can look out over the city and watch hundreds of fireworks displays all happening at the same time. It’s dazzling.
