  3. What is a 504 504 is a broad federal civil rights law that protects all individuals with a handicap and is designed to help parents of students with physical or mental impairments in public schools or publicly funded private schools.

  4. 504’s Level The Playing Field These 504 plans legally ensure that students with special needs will be treated fairly at school. 504 plans level the playing field, enabling students with special needs to get the accommodations needed to access curricula at the same level as their classmates.

  5. To Help Students Succeed •Modify the classroom environment •Adjust teaching strategies or other adjustments •Assess student’s progress •Communicate effectively with parents

  6. Goal of 504 •For students to be educated in the regular classroom along with the services, accommodations, or educational aids they might need.

  7. Crisis Counseling Crisis intervention counselors often work to help at-risk individuals deal with the following types of issues: Suicide prevention and prevention of self-inflicted injuries, Deterrence from aggression, assault, depression, anxiety, grief, etc.

  8. Crisis Counseling A crisis refers not just to a traumatic event or experience, but to an individual's response to the situation. ... Crisis counseling is an intervention that can help individuals deal with the crisis by offering assistance and support.

  9. Group Counseling Crisis counselor/social worker Noelle McCormick We offer group counseling for various issues that students may be going through. Examples: self esteem, grief, anxiety, depression, relationship building, addictions.

  10. TRANSCRIPTS (Spring Semester) • Transcripts- PLEASE CHECK CAREFULLY - Middle School grades - Summer school, CBE, Correspondence, etc. - GPA (weighted printed on transcript) - Class rank- we are a non ranking school - Top 10% rule apply

  11. Credit Checks & Graduation Plans • 26 credits required for graduation • Foundation + Endorsement • Distinguished + Endorsement • Eligible for Top 10% Auto Admin • Both are college-bound plans

  14. Additional Graduation Requirements • STAAR/EOC • Algebra 1 • English 1 • English 2 • Biology • US History • Senior Project • Students will select their topics at end of Junior year through English classes • Counselors will view and approve video proposals in Spring semester

Requesting Transcripts *Always submit your application before applying! * 3 free transcripts- each additional transcript is $3 w/Parchment Naviance vs. Parchment • We have transitioned to Parchment for official transcripts • Seniors were emailed codes for Parchment • If you request a transcript, an unofficial will be available for you to view • Unofficial transcripts are able to be viewed when students request transcripts

  24. Letters of Recommendation • Ask the teachers in person first • Place teacher request in Naviance • Letters will be sent with transcripts

  25. SAT and ACT Score Submission • You must submit your SAT and ACT scores separately • LHS does not submit scores to institutions • Some schools allow you to self-report

  26. AP Scores and Credits • Do not include AP scores as “college credit earned” during the application process • AP credits are determined by each institution • You can earn up to 18 credits for the LHS Dual Credit Courses Taken

  27. FAFSA October 1st!! *Although you may not qualify for federal funding, you may want to apply anyway! *Some schools give grant and scholarship money based on FAFSA completion
