  4. The Def Jam Record Company • Formed in 1984 by Rick Rubin & Russell Simmons Artists on the label Run DMC - Walk This Way released in 1986 Beastie Boys Public Enemy LA Cool JA

  5. Hip Hop & The Visual Image • MTV was launched August 1981 however no music of black origin was shown. It wasn’t until CBS records gave MTV an ultimatum. Play Michael Jackson or CBS will withdraw all other acts on the label from MTV. • The Rock Steady Crew appeared in the film Flash Dance in 1983. • A Hip Hop Music Show was aired on MTV entitled YO MTV Rap in 1988.This was crucial to the spread of Hip Hop around the world.
