  5. Open a browser • Go to your web site • Click on homework • The new page should be there. • Close the browser (to flush the cache).

  6. Status • Your homework page is now finished and will not have to be modified again for the entire semester. • Now we will create the pages for the two projects • mandatory.html • optional.html

  7. Go back to kompozer • You should have your homework page there. We will change that page and save it for the two projects. • Highlight the title and change it as appropriate • Click on the course tab at the bottom. • Change the background color and the title color and color • Change the title appropriately • Click on the normal tab at the bottom and notice the results. • Save AS mandatory.html • Repeat these steps for the other project

  8. Go back to FileZilla • view > refresh • Drag optional.html and mandatory.html to the right pane. • Check everything in your browser.

  9. status • It should now be the case that you have a homework page with two links and each of these links leads to a project page with only a back link. • We will now add links to these pages as appropriate.

  10. Your project pages • We will assume that you will have 4 links on the mandatory project page: • Proposal named proposal.docx • Excel sheet named mandatorye.xlsx • Presentation named mandatoryp.pptx • Project paper named mandatoryd.docx • NOTE you will have a presentation for the “B” project named optionalp.pptx • You should keep copies of each of these in your LitWebSite folder

  11. Mandatory project page • You can modify this page each time you make a change OR • You can create the page will all the items inserted but not yet available. • I will show you the second type.

  12. Go back to kompozer • Choose the mandatory page • Move your cursor between the title and the back link. • Add a link as follows: • Change to header 3 • Click link • Type in appropriate title with (word) • Type in correct link (proposal.docx) • Repeat this process for the other three links. • Save (perhaps after each link is added.)

  13. Current status • As of now the following should be true: • You have your homework.html page set up with two links on it to your mandatory and optional projects. That page is on your computer in your LitWebSite folder and also on your actual web site. • You have two other pages, mandatory.html and optional.html which are the pages that will house the work for the two projects. They are also on both your actual web site and your LitWebSite folder. These two pages are incorrect. • So we will now fix them.

  14. Fixing the two actual project pages • The following steps will be done to both the mandatory.html and optional.html files. • Currently they should look approximately like the following: http://www.cs.scranton.edu/~sidbury/mandatoryStart.html. • You want to change them to look like: http://www.cs.scranton.edu/~sidbury/mandatoryFinal.html. • Note if you want to see the details you can open the mandatoryFinal.html page into kompoZer and see exactly what the details are. • Do the same with the optional.html page. For this page, you will probably only need the powerpoint link

  15. Status and comments • These pages have been setup to allow the various files to be available from your web site in both original form and as web pages to be looked at without need for Office. • The project requirement is to have these available in one of the two ways (either the first OR second column). Doing it both ways makes the project slightly better and therefore makes your grade slightly higher. • Once these have been setup you will not need to do anything to your page again (other than to change the title and header of the optional page to an appropriate value). • The only things that need to be done to finish your project(s) is to create the files to be used and put them on your Web site.

  16. Open Word • Open your project proposal • Save AS proposal.docx in your LitWebSite Folder as a word document. • OPTIONAL for more credit. • Save as a webpage in your LitWebSite Folder. • At this stage your folder should contain proposal.docx, proposal.htmand a folder proposal_files. • You will go through the same process with your excel file, your powerpoint, and your final paper word file.

  17. Adding actual files • Go back to FileZilla and refresh. There should now be proposal.docx and perhaps proposal.htmand proposal_files in the left pane. • Drag them to the right pane. • Check in your browser to see if it works.

  18. Finishing up • Check in your browser. • If it doesn’t work then refresh your page. • If it still doesn’t work, use filezilla to check to see if your files are in the right place. When opening Filezilla be sure that your right pane is connected to your public_html folder and not your base folder. • As a last resort, come see me.
