  1. 5 Common Types Of Retaining Walls

  2. A retaining wall is a structural design to prevent soil pressure. They are used when a support from soil is required to retain it at different levels. Most commonly retaining walls are used in sloppy areas to hold back the soil from eroding sliding away. Introduction

  3. Gravity walls are constructed to restrict the soil and other materials behind them. Usually these thick gravity walls are made with stone, concrete and brick masonry along with concrete and mortarless stone. Gravity Wall

  4. These walls are directly connected with the foundation due to which they are hold back the soil efficiently. Moreover these walls are constructed on slab foundation due to which they provide extreme support. This type of retaining walls have a simple structure therefore this type is preferred by the constructors. Concrete Cantilever Retaining Wall

  5. Buttressed retaining walls are cantilever walls constructed with counter forts monolithic on the base slab and back of the wall slab. In order to reduce shearing and bending loads, these buttressed retaining walls act as tension stiffeners that connects the wall slab to the base. Moreover, The buttressed walls are spaced apart from one another to reduce the bending moment between the vertical and horizontal walls. Buttressed Retaining Wall

  6. Sheet pile walls are made using steel sheets designed in the form of a slope or deep excavation. In construction projects where it is necessary to retain a higher earth pressure of soft soil, sheet pile walls are the most cost-effective solution. Sheet Pile Walls

  7. The retaining walls that made using strips or rods which are anchored into the ground are termed as anchored earth retaining wall. The anchors are tied into the ground using pre-stressed and high strength steel tendons cables. Moreover, the strip ends are shaped to join the strip at a specific position in the soil to support the anchored earth wall. Anchored Earth Retaining Wall
