  1. Note-Taking Rachael L Wright

  2. Problem? • I take notes with pictures when I use the whiteboard • I take notes with video when I want to capture a teacher’s review session • I take notes with text when I want to list something • I take notes with voice when I have a good idea while walking • I takes notes with drawings when I want to draw a chart or write an equation • And I want to capture them all and store them in one place.

  3. Technology • I built the first prototype in PPT which allowed me to associate different icons with different actions • I built the second in paint, because I wanted to represent a menu quickly and easily, with problems from overlapping links in powerpoint • I presented a structured test environment on the GGC Wiki

  4. Hardware • All prototypes were tested on individual student laptops • Prototypes represented an android tablet environment

  5. Prototypes

  6. Tasks • Take Text Note • Take Video • Take Voice • Draw

  7. Data Collection • Pre-Survey • Smartphone comfort level and ownership • Post-Survey • Buy-in • Speed • Ease of Use • 3 Test Subjects • Subjects Read the Disclosure • Completed Pre-survey • Opened prototype 1 • Completed Tasks for Prototype 1 • Took Post-survey • Opened prototype 2 • Completed Tasks for Prototype 2 • Took Post-survey • All testing was done on the student’s laptop via GGC Wiki

  8. Results • Testers preferred a complicated UI to one they understood • Buy-in measures the interest in the product and the user’s opinion of it, and although Prototype 1 had phenomenal Usability results, it consistently stunk in buy-in, because it wasn’t attractive

  9. Next • Better Graphics • Replacing the text bar • Finding an intuitive way to collect individual task results to pinpoint pain points
