  2. Who Are We • One of the largest technical colleges in Georgia • Established July 2010 from the merger of: • Flint River Technical College (FRTC); and • Griffin Technical College (GTC) • Combined student population of over • 6,500 credit students Southern Crescent Technical College

Who Are We • Serve the workforce and community needs of the over 500,000 citizens • Serve nine counties of the South Atlanta region including Butts, Fayette, Henry, Jasper, Lamar, Pike, Spalding, Taylor, and Upson counties. • Serve an additional 3,500 students per quarter in Adult Education and Continuing Education programs • Offer nearly 200 associate degree, diploma, and technical certificate programs to provide the trained workforce needed to help stimulate Georgia’s community and economic growth and development.   11. Employment Documents Southern Crescent Technical College is a registered participant in the federal work authorization program commonly known as E-Verify. The College utilizes the program to verify employment eligibility of all individuals hired on or after July 1, 2007. The following are an example of the documents which must be collected: • Government Issued Identification (Drivers Licenses, Passport, etc.) • Social Security Card, Employment Authorization Card, Voters Registration Card, • U.S Military card, Birth Certificate • SCTC also collects the following documents: • Official Transcripts • Copy of Licensure Southern Crescent Technical College

  12. Getting Started… • To log on to www.team.georgia.gov • Click on “View My Paycheck” • Type in User ID and Password, if you already know it. If you don’t know your user ID, contact a Human Resources Coordinator • Use your Social Security # for initial Password, then create new Password • Create new Security Questions (if you have not done so) • Click on “Employee Self Service” located on the left side of the screen Southern Crescent Technical College

Getting Started... • Visit www.team.georgia.gov to: • Enroll in benefit plans within30 days after being hired • View and print out your paycheck stub • Review and update your personal information • Review your pay and compensation history • Review and update tax withholding information • Update your direct deposit and other deduction or contribution information NOTE - If you change your direct deposit routing or account number, your check will be mailed for that month and direct deposited the subsequent months. BENEFITS AND SERVICES • Receive up to twelve (12) paid holidays annually* • Eligible to accrue annual and sick leave at the end of each month • Paid on the last business day of each month via direct deposit • May participate in state health and wellness benefits • May participate in flexible health benefit plans • May enroll in following retirement plans: • Teachers Retirement System (TRS) • Employee Retirement System (ERS)** • Georgia State Employee’s Pension and Savings Plan (GSEPS) * SCTC may move certain holidays to a later date within the calendar year to accommodate the academic calendar ** Must have prior participation in Employee Retirement System Southern Crescent Technical College

BENEFITS AND SERVICESannual leave* • Accrue 10 hours per pay period 0-60 months • Accrue 12 hours per pay period 60 1/2 months -120 months • Accrue 14 hours per pay period 120 ½ months and greater • May accumulate up to 360 hours of leave • Employees must request to use annual leave and receive prior approval from their immediate supervisor, unless an emergency situation exists. • Faculty members must receive approval from their Deans to use annual leave during scheduled periods of instructions *Must work a minimum of 80 hours Southern Crescent Technical College

BENEFITS AND SERVICESsick and personal leave • Sick Leave* • Accrue 10 hours each pay period • May accumulate up to 720 hours • May be required to provide evidence satisfactory to the supervisor to use sick leave • Personal Leave May transfer up to 24 hours of sick leave to personal leave if balance is greater than 120 hours Southern Crescent Technical College

BENEFITS AND SERVICES Family and Medical Leave (FMLA) Provides up to 12 weeks of unpaid, job-protected leave to eligible employees for the following reasons: • Pregnancy and birth of an employee’s child; • Care of an employee’s newborn child; • Placement of a child with the employee for adoption or foster care, and to care for the child after placement; • Care for the employee’s spouse, child, or parent, who has a serious health condition; or • A serious health condition that makes the employee unable to perform the essential functions of the employee’s position. BENEFITS AND SERVICES Family and Medical Leave (FMLA) Employee Responsibilities • Must provide 30 days advance notice of the need to take FMLA leave when the need is foreseeable. • Must provide notice as soon as practical and generally must comply with normal call-in procedures. Employer Responsibilities • Must inform employees requesting leave whether they are eligible under FMLA. If they are, the notice must specify any additional information required as well as the employee’s rights and responsibilities. • Must provide a reason for the ineligibility. BENEFITS AND SERVICES Military Leave Used by members of the U.S. Armed Forces, any reserve force of reserve component of the U.S. Armed Forces to attend service schools for active duty, active duty training, inactive duty training and examination purposed. Must complete a “Leave Request” form and attach a copy of “Notice to Report to Duty” or written statement by authorized military representative. • Employees ordered to duty without personal consent will be paid for up to 18 work days in a federal fiscal year (October 1 – September 30) • Employees ordered to duty with personal consent will be paid for up to 18 work days, as indicated above, if the period of ordered duty does not exceed 30 calendar days. BENEFITS AND SERVICES Military Leave • Employee ordered to duty with personal consent exceeding 30 calendar days will be placed on leave without pay for the entire period of absence unless the absence is charged to accrued annual and/or personal leave. • Employees ordered to active state service in the National Guard due to an emergency declared by the Governor will be paid for up to 30 work days in a federal fiscal year. • Other absences from work while on military leave will be without pay, unless the employee requests to use accrued annual and/or personal leave.   26. Professional development Advanced Education Salary Adjustment SCTC supports employees who pursue advanced degrees. To qualify for a salary adjustment an employee must: • Have at least one year of service with SCTC • Complete Eligibility Form with supporting documentation • Obtain approval from your Division Vice President • Provide official transcript/diploma to Human Resources upon completion Southern Crescent Technical College

PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT Performance Evaluations • SCTC annually reviews and rates the quality and quantity of work performed by all full time employees. • Discussions of performance goals and improvements are also performed. • Annual performance evaluation are usually held between May and June of each fiscal year between the employee and his/her immediate supervisor. • Faculty members are also periodically evaluated, in part, through student evaluations. • Staff development plans are also required. COLLEGE COMMUNICATIONS • Southern Crescent Technical College uses a service called SchoolCast to send out phone/text/email alerts to staff/faculty and students in the event of an emergency. • Log in to SchoolCast at: https://www.myschoolcast.com/go/sctech/login.aspx • This link is located on the Staff and Faculty Web Page of the www.SCTECH.edu website. • Update your contact information using your email username and password. Remember your email username is the name that is before the @sctech.edu. For example, if your email address is juser@sctech.edu, then your username would be juser. • User accounts are created weekly to capture any new employees. Your account is disabled upon your separation from the College. Southern Crescent Technical College

College Communications All emergency information pertaining to the College will be provided via the SchoolCast system, the sctech.edu website and/or your @sctech.edu email!! • College documents and forms can be found on Tigernet. SCTC does not utilize personal emails to communicate college business. Therefore, check your @sctech.edu email account often! Southern Crescent Technical College

Safety and Security • Locate, in advance, the nearest: • First Aid Kit • Fire Alarm • Fire Extinguisher • Become familiar with resources and procedures: • Campus Security • Postings in classrooms and hallways • Emergency Evacuation Routes • Fire • Tornado • Emergency Procedures • Campus Intranet Resources • Plan ahead for assisting students with limited mobility during an evacuation. SAFETY AND SECURITY Immediately report any injuries incurred on the job: • To your supervisor • To the Campus Police • To the Human Resources Office • Follow procedures on your Amerisys Emergency Care Card • You will need to fill out a report • You will be asked for the names of any witnesses to your injury In an emergency with serious injuries, seek treatment first!!!!   35. SAFETY AND SECURITY After the student receives medical attention: • Prepare an Accident Report and send it to the Business Office (Griffin Campus) or fax to 770-233-6116 . Include as much detail as possible, including names of all witnesses. • Student Activity Fee provides insurance coverage for medical attention required due to injuries or sudden illness requiring emergency response which occur while student is engaged in College activities. • Refer student to the Business Office as soon as possible to file insurance claim. We encourage students to dress in a manner acceptable in the workplace they hope to enter upon graduation. Please help our students understand what is appropriate!   39. Campus Conduct Political Activities Federal and State laws place certain restrictions on political activities of employees. An employee who wishes to engage in political activity, other than to express his/her opinion privately and to vote, should review the laws and rules of the state. Fund Raising/Raffles Students and student clubs may sell items at SCTC for the purpose of raising money provided they have submitted a prior request and received approval from the Vice President of Student Affairs or his/her designee. The soliciting of funds by employees and/or the conducting of a raffle is prohibited unless approved by the President. Southern Crescent Technical College

Campus conductharassment Harassment of any kind will NOT be tolerated! • One person’s kidding -- is another person’s harassment. • Faculty, staff and students are expected to conduct themselves in ways that cannot be misinterpreted as harassment. • If you observe or experience harassment: • Put a stop to it, if you can!! • If you need assistance, report it to Human Resources. Campus conductworkplace Violence Southern Crescent Technical College is committed to providing all employees, students, volunteers, visitors, vendors and contractors a safe and secure workplace and/or academic setting free of intimidating, threatening, or violent behavior. Any violent act or threatening or disruptive behavior, language, or communication in any form (including telephone, facsimile, or electronic mail or written communication) shall not be tolerated.   42. Campus conductworkplace violence Any one who believes that he/she has been subject to workplace violence should report the matter to Human Resources. Any one who violates this policy shall be subject to disciplinary action, up to, and including termination. Southern Crescent Technical College

  43. Campus conductFood and Beverages No food or drink is allowed in classrooms, laboratories, hallways, or in the library. Southern Crescent Technical College

  44. Campus conductScheduled classes Instructors Faculty members must meet their classes on the scheduled days and for the scheduled amount of time each session. If an emergency causes you to be late or absent and you cannot reach your department chair: Contact your Dean for Academic Affairs, or the “ON CALL” Dean Southern Crescent Technical College

  45. Campus conducte-mail and internet use All information created, stored or transmitted by College computers or networks is subject to monitoring for compliance with applicable laws and policies. Specifically prohibited: • using for personal commercial activities • accessing obscene material • any abusive or destructive activity Southern Crescent Technical College

Campus conductStudent Privacy – FERPA Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act of 1974 (FERPA) protects privacy of education records: • NO education records will be released to anyone, except certain organizations stipulated by FERPA, without the written consent of student • Safeguard student social security numbers • Do NOT give out student contact information • Student directory Information can be released without consent • Inquiries should be referred to the Registrar’s Office or Human Resources. Positive Discipline • Positive Discipline is designed and used to emphasize an employee’s responsibility and accountability for his/her own behavior and actions within the workplace. • Positive Discipline addresses problems in such general areas as performance, conduct, behavior, attendance, and safety. • Key aspects include recognizing and encouraging good performance, correcting performance problems through coaching and counseling, building commitment to high work standards and safe work practices Southern Crescent Technical College

Positive Discipline • Managers and/or Supervisors are responsible for communicating college rules, practices, and expectations consistently. • This policy is not to be considered an explicit or implied contract between the College and any employee or group of employees. • The College reserves the right to adapt, modify, or abandon this and or any other policy at any time for any reason, with or without advance notice to any employee. Severe or Inclement Weathercampus/center Closings • The President or his designee may allow for a campus and/or center closure if severe weather conditions exist. • If weather conditions are sufficiently severe to warrant a closing a campus and/or center, late opening, or early closing of a campus and/or center, employees directly affected by such conditions will be excused from duty without loss of pay or use of leave. • Employees on a regular day off or otherwise not affected when their office or work place is closed because of severe weather conditions will not receive additional time off or other considerations because of closing.   50. Severe or Inclement Weathercampus/center Closing Campus/Center closings will be posted on the college’s website at www.sctech.edu and/or provided through the college’s SchoolCast system.
