PARTNERSHIPS and EXISTING TRANSPORT ASSETS • History • Main ISSUES: Road Safety (Driver, Passenger, Pedestrian) • Malicious damage and assault • - Commenced as a trial – Christmas 2000/2001 to 2006/2007 (6 years / trials) • - Operated Friday and Saturday Nights, First weekend December to last in January • Hours 10:00pm to 5:30am • Transported patrons between venues, and then home to suburbs • - Transported some 7,000 passengers, was a free service • Funding required approx $12,000 per year • - Relied heavily on scarce external funding, Primary funding the RTA, also AGs and Pop Health, and licensees (minor) • - Increasing demand for sustainability and industry funding • - Difficult to sustain and extremely difficult to access funding and coordinate.

New Format Still key ISSUES: Road Safety (Driver, Passenger, Pedestrian) Malicious damage and assault PARTNERSHIPS and EXISTING TRANSPORT ASSETS Primary Objectives: Year round, 24/7 transport option for residents and visitors Self-funded, sustainable and flexible Service all sectors; pubs/clubs, hospitality, tourism and events (public/private) Maximise choice for all age demographics, not just young people going out! Engage the Liquor Industry and transport providers Use Idle transport assets more effectively Self managing, coordination role greatly reduced Eliminate competion & animosity Between the Accord and Transport Providers

What is the new format? • Public On-Call Buses • Two buses that can be pre-booked or phoned (mobile) • Normal bus fare, and runs all week – 5:30 to 11:00pm • Three premises are currently booking the On-Call service • Venue courtesy services • 16 venues have their own service • Generally free, and will pick-up and deliver home • Some have spare capacity and prepared to share • Inner City LOOP, shared by inner city venues, and will take home • Taxis • Regular and Maxi • Secured / managed ranks at all late night trading venues • Rail • Citirail to Newcastle, North Coast and North West • Charter services • Drive yourself or with driver PARTNERSHIPS and EXISTING TRANSPORT ASSETS

Partners • Hospitality Industry • Transport Industry • Govt agencies, RTA, Police, OLGR, MoT, Council • promoted through Council’s Visitor’s Information Centre PARTNERSHIPS and EXISTING TRANSPORT ASSETS • Benefits and keeping partners ‘in the LOOP’ • Completely voluntary – if they don’t like it – then don’t participate or waste time • No additional cost to what they are already doing • Commercial flow-on to: • Venues – increased patronage and options for sharing costs • Advertising – listed on www.mla.org.au and promoted through media • Maximise bookings for transport, better scheduling • Safer options for taxis – secured ranks • Assists with ‘commitment to being a good neighbour’ – moves people on • Maximises use of idle transport assets • YEAR ROUND SERVICE – becomes habitual for patrons, not just at Chrismas

What’s Planned • Current grant with RTA • look at re-badging to better reflect the new format • Sticker ID for all transport “Member of the Maitland LOOP” • Promotions at different times, Christmas, Easter, Anzac Day etc • New services as they come on board • Community Taxi • Maxi-cab owned and operated by the Accord • Dedicated to venues at night • Normal hire during the day and off-peak • Set-fare to disadvantaged communities • Multiple hire • Member of local Co-operative • Profits returned to the Accord to enhance transport PARTNERSHIPS and EXISTING TRANSPORT ASSETS
