  2. Why Japan is reviewing its domestic measures now? (1) Reviews of domestic measure and border measure are two side of the same coin. Sanitary and Phytosanitary Agreement for World Trade Organization request member countries to adopt border measures which are same orequivalent with its domestic measure.

  3. Why Japan is reviewing its domestic measures now? (2) Taking proper process will be necessary to get consumer’s confidence for US beef. Japanese citizens are firmly oppose to review of border measures on US’s political pressure.

  4. Food Safety Commission published “Measures against BSE in Japan” on 9th September.

  5. MAFF and MHLW submit a draft for deliberation for the review of domestic measures to FSC on 15th October. The draft was written to reflect the report of FSC that was published on September to domestic measures.

  6. Review for mandatory BSE test MHLW proposed to lift the minimum age of cattle which are targets of mandatory BSE test from 0 month old to 21 months old and elder.

  7. High-level talks was held from October 21 to 23 in TOKYO However, there is some difference between the results that were published by both authorities.

  17. Who wishes to buy US beef? The result of a public-opinion research conducted with ASAHI Newspaper on 23 and 24 October. At least 63% of respondent do not wish to take US beef. Only 26% of respondent support to reopen the border without BSE test for younger than 21 months old.
