  2. GOAL All students will be proficient in reading and writing by 2014. What group of studentsis targeted with this goal: All students in grades 6-12

  3. Objective 1 Teachers will administer writing prompts twice a year and provide feedback to evaluate and improve persuasive writing skills.

  4. Evidence of Action • Grade 6 = Narrative Prompt • 7-12 = Persuasive Prompt • November (Pre Assessment) = Prompt A • February (Post Assessment) = Prompt A

  6. Evidence of Action (continued) • Quality feedback given to students on an individual basis • Staff has been trained on scoring prompts using the ACT Rubric • Writing prompts scored by ELA staff using the ACT Rubric (grades 7-12), and MEAP Rubric (grade 6)

  7. Is It Working? • Common Initiative Among ELA Staff • Additional Writing Data For This Year • Evaluation of Scores and Discussion of Possible Interventions • Will Be Added to Data Director

  8. Objective 2 Teachers will increase access, time, and authentic purpose of informational texts in lessons in order to improve reading comprehension.

  9. Evidence of Action • Curriculum re-alignment to support the improvement of informational text goal • Discussion/notes from bi-monthly meetings • Share-out of resource information during our department meetings • “Professional Learning Community” has been established and are sharing lessons with focus on informational text

  10. Is It Working? • Discussion / Ideas during monthly meetings • Item analysis of MEAP results when they are released • Analysis of semester exams

  11. Objective 3 Teachers will provide explicit vocabulary activities in order to improve reading comprehension.

  12. Evidence of Action • RTI Strategies in Classrooms • Discussion/sharing of ideas and resources during department meetings • Review and implement Lifetyme strategies into all core subject areas • Daily exposure/instruction involving ACT vocabulary lists

  13. Is It Working? • Data analysis of ACT Practice Test through Sylvan Learning • Classroom walkthroughs/informal observations by principals

  14. What’s Next? • Evaluation of writing prompt scores • MEAP/MME Item Analysis • Pre/Post Assessment Data • Review of weekly lesson plans (new this year)
