  1. RAINFOREST Man conquers rainforest

  2. Extensive logging of forests endangers production of oxygen and life on Earth. It is estimated that due to logging each year around 11 million hectars of tropical rainforest is lost.

  3. Rainforests are often called „nature schools“ – because they allow us to see life cycle of an ecosystem (which can take up to 500 years), from the beginning through decay to self regeneration. Rainforests are protected as special forest vegetation reserves.

  4. Especially endangered is Amazon rainforest (South America) which is of special importance for the life on Earth for it releases huge amounts of oxygen into the atmosphere. That is why we call rainforests “green lungs of the world“, as they produce 40% of Earth’s oxygen.

  5. According to geographical and climate characteristics we divide rainforests into several types, tropical rainforests are the primary type which are located in tropical areas, and temperate (Scandinavian and European rainforests of temperate and cold areas). • Term „rainforest“ actually indicates natural areas of forests which were not directly influenced by man.

  6. Tropical rainforests support a great biodiversity in the world. Even thought rainforests take less than 2% of Earth’s area they house more than 50% of all plants and animals in the world. • Rainforests are rich in animal and plant life.

  7. Forest degradationis an impact of the modern man on the rainforest which leads to its final dissapearance, and advent of artifical forests created by afforestation. • 21 March and 14 Semptember are named International day of forests and International day of rainforests.
