  3. Who is Mrs. Timofte? • Major in Mathematics – Univ. of Bucharest • High School Math teacher/tutor since 1997 (Bucharest , BSD, NSD,LWSD) • Fourth year as a math teacher at EASTLAKE HS!

  4. Teaching Style • Teacher introduces the new concept or students are lead to discover patterns, draw conclusion, come up with mathematical conjectures; • Students are encouraged to express opinions, make assumptions, support and justify their thinking; • Teacher gives examples ( from real life if possible) to support and clarify the theoretical concepts; • Students are expected to actively participate to all class discussions, come up with ideas or questions and ask for help from colleagues or teacher when needed;

  5. Calculus Syllabus • WELCOME to CALCULUS!!! This course develops math skills through studying functions, their behavior and graphs, limits, differentiation, integration, and applications of the derivatives and integrals.This course requires solid algebra knowledge! • PLEASE MAKE SURE YOU CHECK STANDARDS SCORE OFTEN, AS IT WILL BE UPDATED AT LEAST ONCE A WEEK! • Check teacher website on www.inetteacher.com for homework and assessments calendar

  6. Structure of the class Assessments : Tests 40% and Quizzes – 50% • Test/Quizzes: Quizzes/Tests will be given regularly. • Most Quizzes, all Mastery Quizzes and all Tests will be announced a week in advance. • In the case of an excused absence: the quiz/test will be taken the day the student returns to school.(special arrangements can be made )

  7. Mastery Quizzes/Quizzes • Students will have to take and pass (score above 90%) several Mastery Quizzes on essential skills; if a student doesn’t make 3 attempts to pass or passes the Mastery Quiz before the announced deadline, the score will be 0! All students can come to make corrections on any Quiz, during tutorials, prior to the Unit Test, as long as the student has no missing assignments and has evidence of learning progress. The final score in Standards Score will be the average of the original and the new score. Students are responsible to know the deadlines.

  8. Class Structure Class work, participation, homework, projects – 10% • Assignments will be graded on completion and work shown. Students are expected to attempt each problem in the homework • Assignments: Homework will be assigned both in class and outside of class on a daily basis. Each numbered assignment will be worth 5 points. • Late homework is discouraged; late assignments will be accepted, but can’t receive the maximum score. No assignment can be turned in for points later than 2 meeting periods since it was due.

  9. Class Norms: • Be seated at your desk, notes/homework out, ready to start when the bell rings. • Take notes, work, participate, and follow teacher directions. • No personal electronics, except a graphing calculator. No CELL PHONES (school rule) – I will enforce it with no additional warnings

  10. Materials Needed • Textbook- CALCULUS by Larson, 8th edition • Graphing Calculator: TI-83 or TI-84 is highly recommended. • Spiral notebook with Graph paper • Soft math folder, to be used daily for loose paper and handouts

  11. Tardiness and Attendance: • Students are to be in their seat when the bell rings. Otherwise, the student will be marked tardy. • Four tardies will be turned into an unexcused absence. • Students arriving to class 15 minutes late will be marked absent. • If absent, tests must be taken on the day of return. Homework from excused absences is also excused; however the student is responsible for the content covered during an absence. • For lengthy absences, other arrangements may be made.
