  3. INTRODUCTION • Pornography is a Greek word derived from ponographia. Porne means “prostitute” and graphein means “to write or record” derived meaning “ illustration” • The word porn meaning indecent pictures or depiction of whores came from Greek. Who painted such frescos on the walls of their brothels . In a word , such pictures were wonderful advertising of homes where women sold themselves to Greeks for money.

  4. DEFINITIONS PORNOGRAPHY:- printed or visual material that means to arouse excitement . CHILD PORNOGRAPHY :- Any type of written or visual work in which the characters or participants are children engaging in some kind of sexual activity. OBSCENE:- Offending accepted standards of decency . EROTIC:- Relating to tending to arouse sexual desire or excitement. It comes from greek word “EROTIKOS” Meaning “ Sexual Love “ EROTICA :- Refers to any visual work or literary of art that is erotic in nature . I

  5. Cont. • INTELLECTUAL FREEDOM IN LIBRARIES:- The responsibility to protect and ensures the right of all people to access any kind of information they desire regardless of its nature and content.

First documented porn pictures were printed in oriental manuals of sex, kama sutra was the most popular among them. • At the 18th Centuary France was the leading country regarding the spread of porn pictures. Porn became an element of playing cards , postures, post cards and so on. • In 1968 ,porn was first legalized in Denmark . Then , M.C. Van Hellen and Alex De Renzy made a film about the phenomena of Scandinavian sex movies and demonstrated the new film in American cinemas . The film was terrific success in the U.S.A , and it is known that De Renzy still makes porn films in U.S.A. legally. Since that time , the society no longer feels ashamed to reveal its interest in sex.

  8. CONT. • By the mid of 1980s , the golden era of porn came to naught . On the threshold of millennium a great number of porn films appeared .

GENRES OF PORNOGRAPHY • In general there are two main types of pornography - softcore and hardcore pornography. • Softcore – depicts naked or patially clothed women or men in sexually suggestive situations but exclude sexual activity and penetration. It includes glamour photography and other salacious images of women. • Hardcore – depicts graphical sexual acts and visible penetration .

CLASSIFICATION • Pornography is further classified into these types • Alt porn :- body modification tattoos, piercings • Amatuer :- Un skilled models • Ethnic :- focus on performer’s specific ethnic group • Fetish :- arousal from physical object . • Group sex :- Sexual behavior involving more than two participants. • Reality pornography:- Real stage scenes • Sexual orientation based pornography- straight porn, gay , lesbian, bisexual

  11. LEGAL ISSUES IN CANADA • Hardcore material is legal in Canada to anyone over the age of majority (18 or 19, depending on the province). Sales to persons under 18 (or 19) is prohibited, though persons of this age may own or possess porn. Most materials are sold in adult stores and adult websites. • Section 163 of the canadian criminal code provides the country’s legal definition of obscenity which is covered under 8 sections of 163 criminal code. It was enacted in 1993. this section highlights on offences with relation to fabrication and distribution or to possessing them for purpose of publication , mail.   12. ANTI –PORNOGRAPHY MOVEMENT • There are many different views on pornography some believe that it lives for forever because authorities gain most profit from it . While others say it a social phenomenon that will never be eradicated by any measures because its something that most people enjoy and wish for it. However ,Opposition to pornography comes generally , though not exclusively , from 3 primary sources : law , religion , feminism. • Feminist critics consider it demeaning to women . It contributes to violence against women ,both in production and consumption of pornography. They argue that it presents distorted image of sexual relation, reinforces sex myths and lower the dignity of woman.

  13. CONT. • Legal objections – it includes obscenity act . • Religious objections –religious values often discourage people from viewing pornography, and cause support for legislation restricting its publication. Educational view also holds same opinions that it disturbs the child mentally .

  14. HOW TO AVOID FROM PORNOGRAPHY • Try to mentally categories your life into three types. • GREEN- safe activities that would not lead you to temptation. • YELLOW- dangerous behavior that could lead to porn . • RED- activities that directly lead to porn use.

PORNOGRAPHY STATISTICS • TIME STATISTICS • Every second -$3,075.64 is being spent on pornography • Every second:-28, 258 internet user viewing pornography • Every second:-372 internet users are typing adult search terms into search engines. • Every 39 minutes a new pornographic video is created in U.S.A.

AGE BASED PORNOGRAPHY STATISTICS • Average age of first internet exposure to pornography is 11 yrs. old. • Largest consumers:- 35-49 age group • 80% of hardcore exposures :– 15 -17 yrs. old • 90% viewed online porn:-8-16 yrs. old • 29% give out home address freely: – 7 -17 yrs. old • 14% who freely give out e- mail address are also of same age group .

  18. CONCLUSION • As per our opinion pornography is neither too bad nor too good. It is a profession like others. It allows a person to express their sexual emotions and pleasure if not used in excess. It has both sides as it depends on the person who is viewing porn videos and who is producing. Eventually, speaking in the favor of porn stars it tells how you set your business limits so that profession could not hit them or use them as an object.
