About Safety Groups (SG) UK • A revitalised Charitable organisation • Aiming to become a key player in the UK health and safety system • Formed out of the National Health and Safety Groups (NHSG) Council • Representing around 80 community-based H&S groups throughout the UK • The H&S Groups are made up of representatives from local businesses

Being a Key Player in the H&S System • Partnership agreement with HSE. • Reaching out to small businesses in local communities. • Providing low-cost h&s help through seminars, advice lines, meetings, publications, awards etc. • Assisting H&S Groups and helping to form new ones. • Supporting Group / Regional activities • Working with other key stakeholders. • Influencing and contributing to the development of UK H&S strategies

Current Developments Include: • Focus on HSE priorities: • Slips, trips and falls. • Falls from height. • Workplace transport. • Stress and • Musculoskeletal disorders. • Leading a special project on occupational skin disease - ‘DERM at Work’. • Building a regional representation on SG (UK) management committee to reflect views from around the country.” - eg Scottish Chamber of Safety, North West Safety Groups Association and a few others currently being organised

The DERM at Work Project (Dermal Exposure Risk Management) • Project closely related to HSE’s plans on a Disease Reduction Programme (DRP). • Project plans developed in consultation with HSE. • Project will deliver management package for preventing work-related dermatitis (WRD). • Project will deliver 10 one-day seminars spread throughout the country. • Deliver information package to members of H&S Groups.

DERM at Work Delivery Routes • 10 one-day seminars spread across the country • Autumn 2006 to Autumn 2007 • 70 to 80 Managers / H&S professionals at each seminar venues • “Management kit” to attendees for preventing WRD • “Management kit” to members of H&S Groups via DERM Champions • Other useful publications on managing WRD risks • Package of information on SGUK web - post seminars (Autumn 07)

Potential Components of Management Kit To Include: • “Prevent Work-Related Dermatitis – It’s in your hands” booklet • Training presentations (Powerpoint) • Pre/post evaluation sheets for training effectiveness assessment • A set of posters • Examples of case studies • Pocket card (employees) • Demonstration video clips • Sponsors information package

DERM at Work Seminars SCOS to launch in Perth 8th November 06 Benefits • Publicity for the Groups and SCOS • Potential Profit (seminars are designed to be self financing) • Potential for increased membership • Increased networking opportunities with other groups • SCOS providing something “different” to Groups and their members • Improve the service provided to Groups & their members • The opportunity to influence those within group members supply chain (sub-contractors)
