Safe Drinking Water Information System (SDWIS) • Safe Drinking Water Act requires states to monitor public drinking water systems • Alaska adopted SDWIS to collect information for the Drinking Water Program • SDWIS houses three major categories of Information: • Inventory • Sampling • Monitoring

  4. Inventory • Includes information such as • System location • Population served • Service connections • Water source • Water System Facilities • Administrative Contact

  5. Sampling • Information includes lab results for contaminants: • Chemical • Microbiological • Radiological Any contaminant regulated by the Safe Drinking Water Act

  6. Monitoring • Monitoring information contains the schedule for sampling under each EPA Rule, such as • Total Coliform Rule • Lead and Copper Rule • Arsenic Rule • The Monitoring and Sampling portion of SDWIS allows the state to compare the two and determine non-compliance (violations)
