  3. The Nature of Knowledge • Epistemology: • ”to what extent can we know something is true?” • ”does a phenomenon have an objective life (e.i. discrimination) or is it only existing in the minds of those who discuss it?” • Becoming • Positivism vs interpretivism

  4. The Existence of the Social Life • Ontology: • ”not dealing with what is true – but with the existence of social entities (e.i. organizations)” • Is a team existing in itself? Or is it just the concept of a team we are thinking of? • Being • Objectivism vs. constructionism

  5. Qualitative and Quantitative • Quantitative: • Survey, archival reseatch • Qualitative: • Interview, case study, action research, experiment, workshop

  7. Reliability • Reliability: • Design research in a way that makes it auditable - tranparent and clear • Avoid errors and bias • Bias: I.e. telephone interview: asking people about their habits looking at TV. The bias is that those who answer the calls are people who mostly stay at home

  8. Validity • Face validity • Method makes sense in itself • Construct validity • The questions are really asking what you think yjey should ask • Internal validity • Does strong motivation lead to good team work?
