This study presents findings on abiogenic hydrocarbons sourced from four new locations—one in Canada and three in South Africa. It explores the pervasive nature of these hydrocarbons in the Precambrian Shield, revealing a significant compositional and isotopic variability influenced by the mixing of abiogenic and microbial processes. Furthermore, the research highlights the concentrations of hydrogen (H2) and the isotopic compositions of methane (CH4), which indicate a coupled oxidation process involving H2, contributing to our understanding of geochemical cycles.
