Benefits • Disabled people can progress at their own pace which is often slow. • Sections can be repeated. • The level of difficulty can be changed to suit the pupil/student’s progress. • The use of computers has, in some instances, led to the narrowing of the digital divide eg some rural schools have access to computers.

  3. Record Keeping Most records in schools are now kept in electronic format. The data can be transferred to other schools or universities. Reporting and processing is also computerised which makes processing and analysis faster and easier. A good example is iSams.

  4. Antisocial use of ICT • Students can hack into computer systems and amend or delete records. • Encryption and backup may be used to prevent some of the problems that may arise • Strong usernames and passwords may also be used.

  5. Problems • Deletion of examination papers and data – always keep a backup copy, use passwords and firewalls • Altering examination papers-encryption • Deleting responses-Backup • Deleting/Changing results-Backup • Distributing results-Encryption

  6. Examination Boards Many examination boards now use online marking systems in order to assess examinations. Special marking software is used for this. Examiners allocate marks to each part then the computer calculates the totals. A variety of statistics can be generated easily.
