A-25 • Ruler DO: Today I will describe soil scientifically through observation and data collection DQ: What characteristics of soil would help describe it accurately?

  2. Vocabulary • Color – the hue of the soil; tested by using a book of color chips. • Texture – the size of the particles; tested by feeling the soil. • Consistence – how easily the soil clumps can be broken apart; tested by applying pressure to the clumps.
