  1. Temporary Visitor Driver License and Nonresident CDL Follow standard issuance process Are you a US Citizen, National, Legal Permanent Resident, Asylee, or Refugee? Yes No *Applicants who reside in Mexico or Canada are not eligible for a Texas CDL as the federal rules allow States to recognize a Mexico or Canadian issued CDL for vehicle operation in Texas. What type of license are you requesting? Commercial DL* (Nonresident CDL) Non-commercial (Temporary Visitor DL) Do you have a Social Security Number? Follow requirements under Temporary Visitor Matrix (37TAC15.171) All documents provided must not expire prior to 6 months from current date. No Yes Temporary Nonresident CDL is only good for a maximum of 60 days to provide the applicant with the opportunity to apply for a social security card. This license may not be renewed. Applicant may be eligible for a Nonresident CDL • Follow Requirements under TRC 522.021 • Social Security Card; and • Validly issued Foreign Passport (can be expired); and • Form I-94 Arrival/Departure Document, or I-797; and • Valid Temporary Worker Visa (i.e.; Employment Authorization Document, or Form I-766; or a visa category E-1, H-1, H-2A, H-2B, H-3, L-1, O-1, P-1, P-2, P-3, Q-1 or R-1) • — All documents presented must belong to the applicant and contain the same name except for instances of name change (i.e.; marriage, divorce, etc.) • —There is no 6 month minimum restriction. The 6 month minimum expiration date for identity documents only applies to non-commercial Temp Vis and does not apply to nonresident CDLs. • Follow Requirements under TRC 522.021 • Validly issued Foreign Passport (can be expired); and • Form I-94 Arrival/Departure Document, or I-797; and • Valid Temporary Worker Visa (i.e.; Employment Authorization Document, or Form I-766; or a visa category E-1, H-1, H-2A, H-2B, H-3, L-1, O-1, P-1, P-2, P-3, Q-1 or R-1) • — All documents presented must belong to the applicant and contain the same name except for instances of name change (i.e.; marriage, divorce, etc.) • — There is no 6 month minimum restriction.
