  1. Công thức Kelly giúp bạn xác định mức rủi ro khi cá cược dựa trên tỷ lệ cược và xác suất dự kiến. Công thức này có dạng: (B×P−Q)/B Trong đó: ● B là tỷ lệ cược giảm đi 1. ● P là xác suất dự kiến của việc chiến thắng. ● Q là xác suất thất bại, hay 1 trừ đi P. Ví dụ, trong trận đấu giữa Man United và Man City: ● Tỷ lệ chiến thắng của Man United là 58,5% với tỷ lệ cược 1,71. ● Man City có tỷ lệ chiến thắng 27,4% và tỷ lệ cược 3,65. ● Tỷ lệ cược cho trận đấu hòa là 30,8% với tỷ lệ 3,25. Giả sử, sau khi phân tích, bạn tin rằng xác suất thực tế để Man United chiến thắng là 65%. Áp dụng công thức Kelly, ta có: P = 0,65, B = 0,71, Q = 0,35. Kết quả: (0,71×0,65−0,35)/0,71 (0,71×0,65−0,35)/0,71 = 15,7%. Từ đó, Kelly Criterion khuyến nghị bạn nên dùng 15,7% số tiền bạn sở hữu để đặt cược cho trận đấu này. Dù có vẻ như mức rủi ro này cao, nhưng Kelly đã tính toán dựa trên các thông số. Đôi khi, khuyến nghị có thể lên đến 20% hoặc 30%.
