Ecorse Creek Bug Hunt Report 2005: Invertebrate Diversity and Findings

  1. CMA Bug Hunt Report 2005 BY- Evan Luff Mia Thomas With Special Thanks To Mrs. Marzec!

  2. Ecorse Creek, Site EC-4 • Grams Drain near McCann and Brest Road. • Overall Score: 30.8 • Number of different taxa found: 11 • Most sensitive invertebrate found- Small Minnow Mayfly, Squaregill Mayfly, and Flathead Mayfly • Score- Fair

  3. Mr. Best !!! Our Bug Catcher! First, Mr. Best scoops the mud with the bugs, out of the creek!

  4. Second, we receive the samples in containers and sort the bugs from the mud. • This is a long fun process. (Also, we spotted a muskrat!)

  6. Third, Mr. Best takes all of our specimens and puts them in alcohol to take back to his lab.

  9. Bug Classifications • The bugs we have listed in the last 3 slides are part of the mayfly family, or the Ephemeroptera family. • Bug 1 is a baetidae • Bug 2 is a caenidae • Bug 3 is a heptageniidae

  10. 2004 was at the Southgate Anderson High School. • 2005 was at the Ecorse Creek –4 • This is a comparison of those two outcomes.
