  1. Dual Credit What Is It? Why Do I Want It? How Can I Get It?

What Is It? • The Dual Credit Program at Reagan allows a student to enroll at San Antonio College (SAC) to earn college level credit while at the same time fulfilling high school academic requirements.  • Dual Credit classes at Reagan are full year courses. Students may earn up to 32 college level hours.

  3. Why Do I Want It? • It’s Free!!!! • Tuition and fees are waived for up to 32 total hours currently covered by NEISD • The Dual Credit courses will apply to an associate's degree at San Antonio College and may transfer to other colleges or universities. As with all transferring courses, it is up to the accepting college or university to honor dual credit course work.

  4. Why Do I Want It? • Taking the DC classes at Reagan means that once you get to the college, you have already earned the credit….no other required college tests to take in May! • Challenging course work prepares you for the rigor of college work! • Looks great on transcript when applying to college. (If you make good grades!)

  5. What Classes get DC? • 8 hours of SAC credit • Anatomy and Physiology (BIOL 2401/02): • 6 hours of SAC credit: AP English IV (ENGL 1301/02) AP US History (HIST 1301/02) AP Spanish Language (SPAN 2311/12) • 4 hours of SAC credit • AP Statistics (MATH 1442) • College Algebra (MATH 1414) • 3 hours of SAC credit • Theatre Arts III/IV (DRAM 1301) • Art Appreciation (ART 1301)

  6. What is the difference in AP and DC? AP • Must test in May to possibly earn college credit. • Some colleges do not accept AP credit • 1.29 multiplier DC • Once you finish the class, you have earned college credit. • Colleges decide what credit you will earn for your work. May be an elective • Can affect financial aid • 1.15 multiplier

  7. How Do I Qualify? You must have passing scores on one of the following tests! • PSAT – EBRW of 460+ and Math of 510+ • SAT – Verbal of 480+ and Math of 530+ www.collegeboard.org • ACT – English 19, Math 19, Composite 23, www.actstudent.org/start • Passing Scores on the TSI Test. (Last year’s testing scores are still good if they are high enough. See your counselor if you have a question about last year’s scores.) • TSI: consists of READING, ENGLISH, MATH. (computerized test) There is a $20 fee (cash or check) for the TSI test. Register in Counseling Office after applying to SAC. • Reagan TSI dates: Jan. 19th, Feb. 16th and April 6th. Saturdays @ 8:00 am.

  8. What Do I Need to Do? • Complete an ApplyTexas Application • Feb. 15 deadline – Apply Texas Handbook guideline • Retrieve your ACES account & Banner ID • 3. Complete Alamo Colleges Go FAARR and Test Prep (PAA) http://net.alamo.edu/district/dept/academic-success/test-prep/index.html • 4. Meet testing eligibility requirements—PSAT, SAT, ACT or TSI • 5. Complete Dual Credit Checklist pp. 5-8 Academic Dual Credit Handbook, Deadline March 8th • 6. Verify Course Schedule

  9. When Do I Start? • Apply now! You must do this by February 15, 2019. • Use Apply Texas Handbook (Red Cover), follow up with Academic Dual Credit Handbook (Green Cover) Complete GoFAARR module once you can access Banner ID. • Series of check marks on ACES account home page (Enrollment Checklist on “Start Here” tab. Click on “Enroll” • If taking TSI test, complete Test Prep on ACES account. • If registering for SAT, ACT, make sure you enter SAC to receive scores. SAT code: 6645, ACT code: 4166 • Deadline to turn in DC Checklist: March 8, 2019.

  10. What Grade Do I Need to Maintain? • SAC You will earn credit as long as you maintain a C in the class each semester. You will be dropped once you earn an F in a semester. • Credits but no grades awarded for AP depending on school • SAC grade is transferred as is with no Reagan GPA weight. • Reagan Grade transfer to SAC • 90-100 = A = 4.0 • 80-89 = B = 3.0 • 70-79 = C = 2.0

  11. How Does the Credit Transfer? • Student requests a final transcript for delivery to SAC from Reagan in May. It will not be processed until the end of June. • Student requests a final transcript from SAC (ACES account) to be sent to the university of their choice after he/she graduates from Reagan. Start requesting the 4th week of June.
