  1. Who are the Dark Horses of Euro 2020? With the ongoing Euro 2020 entering the quarterfinal phase, we have seen the exit of defending champions Portugal already. With everyone expecting the big names to win the tournament, there are some teams acting as the dark horses. The teams went unnoticed when the betting odds were made at the start of the tournament. But as the tournament progressed, they have propelled themselves into the knockout stages in spectacular fashion. Let us have a look at the top 3 teams labelled as the dark horses to win the Euro 2020. Italy When the tournament began, the entire focus was on teams like Portugal, Germany, France, and England. But it was the Italians who stole the show with their stellar performances in all the 3 group stage fixtures. Before Roberto Mancini took over as head coach, the Italians saw the worst phase as the once champion side didn’t qualify for the 2018 FIFA World Cup. But Mancini worked his magic to transform a new batch of youngsters into the fierce players they are today. In the playmaking department, they have Marco Verratti, who has a decade of experience with PSG. Another prominent name is Manuel Locatelli, a skilful midfielder who scored a brace in their group tie against Switzerland. Skipper Giorgio Chiellini leads the line of defence with Alessandro Florenzi and Giovanni Di Lorenzo. With strikers like Ciro Immobile and Lorenzo Insigne in good touch, the Azzurri are confident about lifting the Euro 2020 and bring the lost glory back. Belgium “The Golden Generation” of Belgian football has seen them reach the pinnacle of the FIFA World Rankings. But there is one feather in the cap that is still missing: A FIFA tournament triumph. It makes them the only national team to top the FIFA ranking without having a world cup or a continental trophy. Labelled as the dark horses of the tournament, the Belgians look forward to winning their first Euro trophy at the 2020 edition. Under head coach Roberto Martinez, Belgium has shown their mettle with 4 victories on the trot as they storm into the quarterfinals after ending the defending champions Portugal’s reign. The Belgians too boast a star-studded line-up with playmakers like Thorgan Hazard, Youri Tielemans, and the leader Kevin De Bruyne. With Thibaut Courtois (Real Madrid) performing the goalkeeping duties, they have a strong line of attack comprising of Eden Hazard, Romelu Lukaku, Leandro Trossard, and Michy Batshuayi. Injuries sustained by Kevin De Bruyne and Eden Hazard during the Portugal clash are a spot of bother. But considering their present form, the Belgians are backing themselves to be the Euro champions this year.

  2. Denmark Having their talisman Christian Eriksen collapse on the field after suffering a cardiac arrest was not the start the Danish had hoped for in Euro 2020. And to make matters worse, two consecutive losses against Finland (1-0) and Belgium (2-1) almost saw them out of the tournament. But the Danish run was far from over. The “Never say die” attitude saw a resurgent Denmark register a phenomenal 4-1 win over Russia, which was enough to get them to the final 16. And their latest 4-0 goal-fest against a strong side like Wales has propelled them to the quarterfinals of Euro 2020. The Danes look well set to spring a surprise after 29 years, just like they did in 1992 when they lifted their first European title. Denmark is a talented side boasting experience from world-class leagues like Serie A, La Liga, and Premier League. They possess a strong line of defenders like Simon Kjær, Jannik Vestergaard, and Andreas Christensen with goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel serving as a fantastic last resort. A group of experienced midfielders like Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, Thomas Delaney, Mikkel Damsgaard, and Mathias Jensen is good enough to provide support to the line of strikers comprising of Martin Braithwaite, Yussuf Poulsen, and Kasper Dolberg. With their upcoming quarterfinal clash against the Czech Republic, the Danes are oozing confidence to book a spot for the semi-finals! With the players giving it their all, Euro 2020 is turning out to be one gem of a tournament. The dark horses are capitalizing on every opportunity & so should you.
