  1. MARCH 2004 THE TINKER GREENS The Tinker Golf & Air Force Base monthly newsletter 2004 IS A RULES CHANGE YEAR! Every four years the Royal and Ancient Golf Club of St. Andrews and the United States Golf Association meet and review the rules of golf. The last rules change year was 2000 and rules, just like presidents, are reviewed and, if needed, changed every four years. The 2004 Rules of Golf books are available in the pro shop. LETTER FROM THE DIRECTOR THROUGH THE GREEN The golf course will be sprayed to keep the summer weeds away and to get rid of any existing weeds. This is being done to protect the valuable turf and give you, the golfer, the most consistent playing conditions possible on our fairways and tees. The beginning steps to creating the temporary greens will also be done this month. Homeowner tips for this spring. The same environmental conditions that trigger the ornamental shrub Forsythia to bloom are the same conditions that trigger many summer annual weeds ,(crabgrass) to germinate. Apply your crabgrass control when the Forsythia blooms and you will be accurate in timing the application of your crabgrass control product. Make sure and follow instructions for proper application. Charlie Teide It’s an exciting Its an exciting time at Tinker Golf Course. Work has begun on our temporary greens to ensure the best possible putting surface come July. You may have already noticed these areas which are about 60 yards short of each existing green. We have laid down a layer of top soil and are ready to plant rye grass as soon as the weather cooperates. We ask that you please stay off these areas for now. I am also looking forward to seeing everyone at this year’s St. Patrick’s Day scramble. This is the first tournament of the year and an excellent chance to knock the dust off those clubs. We have included lunch and dinner with the entry fee, and with a keg of green beer it is guaranteed to be a festive event. See you atthe course!
