Communism and Capitalism • The West was capitalist, led by the United States of America (USA) • The East was Communist, led by the Soviet Union or Russia (USSR) • Read through the sheet titled ‘Origins of the Cold War’ to get an idea of how these two different sides thought.
Card Sort • Cut out the various statements. In your book, divide a page in your book into two halves: Communist and Capitalist, and try to place each statement into the correct section. Don’t stick them in until they’ve been checked!
Test your memory! • You have two minutes to read through the ‘Origins of the Cold War’ sheet. • Then you will have to turn over your sheet and tell your partner as many things as you can remember about what you’ve read as possible in 30 seconds. Then it’s your partner’s turn.
