Accelerating Onboarding for Message Mapping Guide Implementation

This guide discusses the acceleration of onboarding for Message Mapping Guide implementation, based on evaluation feedback. It presents findings on resource requirements, costs, and challenges, along with initiatives to improve data quality and efficiency. Key points include the importance of planning and the optimism of jurisdictions for future implementations. The guide also highlights tools for message validation and troubleshooting, as well as a training resource center. 1. Using Evaluation Feedback to Accelerate Message Mapping Guide Implementation Michele Hoover, Team Lead Division of Health Informatics and Surveillance Public Health Informatics Conference August 21, 2018

  2. Evaluation Goals* CSTE supports NMI evaluation efforts by collecting data from jurisdictions to: • Provide input to refine and improve the Message Mapping Guide (MMG) implementation process • Evaluate the resources required to complete MMG implementation • Provide feedback on tools and resources used to achieve successful onboarding of MMG • Provide leadership with information and data to support jurisdictions * Information provided by Council of State and Territorial Epidemiologists (CSTE)

  3. NMI Experience Assessment Findings

  4. Conclusions • Most money and hours spent on data mapping, vocabulary mapping, data extraction functional areas • Estimated time and cost to implement STD/CS is more than double of GenV2/Hep due to complexity of the systems • Most delays/issues experienced in Step 2: Test Message Validation of onboarding • Planning is key for onboarding: resources (staff, vendors, contractors), time allocation, 1-year backload data, and difficult test cases • Jurisdictions are optimistic that future onboarding of MMGs will improve with each MMG. * Information provided by Council of State and Territorial Epidemiologists (CSTE)

  5. Accelerating Onboarding and Increasing Data Quality • Initiatives to accelerate onboarding and improve data quality • Implemented new tool for validating test messages and limited production messages. • Refined processes to quickly identify and troubleshoot issues.
