Tamil Nadu to Receive 8 Greenfield Projects Other Than Chennai-Salem Highway

The construction of the 8-laned Chennai-Salem Highway has been in the news for a long time. There have been both progressions and controversies related to it. Nevertheless, it has still been making great advance. According to recent updates from the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), Tamil Nadu is set to receive 8 more Greenfield Projects, apart from the Chennai-Salem Highway.

  1. Tamil Nadu to Receive 8 Greenfield Projects Other Than Chennai-Salem Highway The construction of the 8-laned Chennai-Salem Highway has been in the news for a long time. There have been both progressions and controversies related to it. Nevertheless, it has still been making great advance. According to recent updates from the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), Tamil Nadu is set to receive 8 more Greenfield Projects, apart from the Chennai-Salem Highway. The highways to be a part of this project are: ● Karur- Coimbatore ● Melur- Thirupathur- Pudukottai Thanjavur ● Kumbakonam Sirkazhi ● Mahabalipuram Pondicherry ● Dindigul Oddanchatram Pollachi Stretch ● Madurai Dhanushkodi ● Chennai Chittoor Road ● Hosur Ring Road As part of the Bharatmala Pariyojana Program, the NHAI will be taking up this project. With the new Greenfield Projects, Tamil Nadu will be acquiring 570 km of new roads throughout. The project has been granted a budget of Rs 43000 crores in the month of February. Prior to the beginning of the project, NHAI has conducted surveys to get a clear picture of the challenges involved and the modifications required. The project, which will be taking off next year, is yet to be alloted an estimated amount of land requirement. The highways to be built under this project will be 4-laned, but that is subject to change keeping various factors such as the traffic and the population in consideration. With a total of 9 projects at hand, the land requirement will be pretty much on the higher side. But given the aim of the Greenfield Project, which to be as minimum hazardous to the environment as possible, NHAI will ensure minimal use of land.
