  2. Preservatives • All Natural • Oils eventually turn rancid from oxidation. Saturated Oil (Coconut & Palm Oil) and transparent soap are last longer. • Vitamin E – mixed Tocopherols, anti-oxidants & good for skin. • Rosemary Extract • 2 Tables Spoon for 12 pounds of soap

  3. Glycerin • Sweet & Viscous Alcolhol • 10-13 % Glycerin after Saponification • Excellent Solvent • Emollient • Humectant • – drawing moisture from the air and holding it to the skin, sweat

  4. Stearic Acid • Odourless fatty acid derived from Palm Oil • to lower soap pH • cuts down saponification time • hardens soap bars

  5. Ethanol • Ethyl Alcohol • Extremely Flammable • Produced by the fermentation of starches, sugar & Carbohydrates. • Th

  7. Distilled Water • Zero Impurities • Do not use Tap Water : mineral impurities may • cloud the soap

  8. Nut Oils • Coconut Oil, Palm Oil • Lauric Acid • Soft and quick lathering soap • Short-lived lather • Produces hard soap, low solubility • Do not use these oils alone : too drying to skin

  9. Castor Oil • 80% Ricinoleic Acid • Preferred oil for transparent soap • Solvent-like properties, making the soap • more transparent • Humectant • Too much Castor Oil makes soap bar sticky • and less lathery

  10. Mixing & Cooking • Precise Measurement is a MUST • Never Use Aluminium • Enamel, Stainless Steel, Ceramic and • Hard Plastic are okay for hot lye solution. • When mixing Lye 90o : wear gloves & goggles • Do not inhale the Lye fumes

  14. Soft Oils • Olive, Canola, Soybean, Sesame, Peanut • Unsaturated Fatty Acids : oleic and linoleic acid • Should never be used alone • Cannot produce hard bars • Goes Rancid quickly • Yields thin, long-lasting lathers with good • detergent properties.
