Homework:Read Scarlet Letter, answer study guide questions and complete dialectical journals for chs. 5-8 BY THURSDAY.

  2. Final Crucible Essay – Timed Writing You will only have this class period to complete this essay, so use your time wisely. Watch the clock! This is a major grade! The thematic ideas of “integrity vs. reputation” and “greed” show themselves through the character and actions of this play. Although Arthur Miller wrote The Crucible in response to the hysteria caused by the anti-communist hearings of the late 1940s to 1950s, the themes of the play have endured. The Crucible remains one of the most-performed plays worldwide. Write an essay in which you explore one or both of these thematic ideas. Explain how they reflect both the play’s historical context and universal human issues. You should use examples from the play as well as real life or history. Be sure to use quotes or quote bits from the text in your examples.
