Direct Potable Reuse Initiative

The Direct Potable Reuse (DPR) Initiative, led by David W. Smith, PhD, aims to enhance urban water sustainability through rigorous research and stakeholder engagement. With a budget of $8-10 million over three years, this initiative focuses on source water management, treatment processes, quality standards, and operational reliability. An Expert Panel is forming per SB 918 to review the DPR Research Plan and advise the Department of Public Health (DPH). This update highlights business plan developments and research priorities essential for effective DPR implementation.
