Introduction • Rapid growth in electronic information due to Internet and its related technologies. • Web originated in 1991 as an organisation-wide collaborative environment at CERN - European laboratory for particle physics, for sharing research documents in nuclear physics. • Now encompasses a variety of information sources - electronic journals, pre-prints, technical reports, databases, library catalogues, educational materials, career sources, information on organizations, associations and so forth.
