  2. Characteristics • Strong • Generous • Hard-Working • Crafty

Strong • The guildsmen needed to have strength when working in careers such as : blacksmithing, carpentering, and tapestry making. • blacksmiths molded metal into swords and other materials that the town needed. • Carpentry involved hammering, sawing, and holding up huge wooden structures. • Tapestries were heavy wall furnishings that were made of fabric. Some were extremely heavy.

  4. Tapestries • Tapestries were used to protect medieval rooms from the weather; they were used to warm up the castle! • Tapestries could be as large as • five yards (15 feet) high by eight yards (24 feet) wide!

  7. Generous The wives of the guildsman were spoiled! Wives thought all the money was theirs and not their husbands’. Wives wanted to be treated as royalty.

  8. Hard-Working • It took lots of energy to work all day and be physically worn down by the hour! It was not a day in the office! • Blacksmithing was not a fast job; it took hard work to customize a sword. • They had to work hard to make money to make their wives happy.

  10. crafty • Guildsmen hand crafted beautiful swords. • Tapestries were hung up on the walls of royal people, so they needed to be flawless and sophisticated. • Carpentering huge wooded pieces meant carving in decorations which took talent and perfection. • Making carpets took perfection and a person who paid attention to detail.
