A global response to a global challenge • Globalisation in its current form is reinforcing the dominance of the market and undermining institutional frameworks , labour market regulations and implicit and explicit social contracts • Social progress was achieved mainly within nation states, however, it is increasingly difficult to defend or build these achievements nationally. • Responses to the current globalisation regime require global networking, global research and global movements.

  3. A global response to a global challenge • On the long run – ideas do matter • Cirticising the dominant neo-liberal discourse is neccessary but insufficient. • Changes for the better require positive ideas and policies • what needs to be done • how can it be done

  8. Objectives • Strengthening global labour networks • Qualification of trade union leaders and experts • Combining academic expertise and trade union know how • Global discourse instead of North-South knowledge transfer

Additional objectives • Overcomming language barriers among trade unionists • Stimulating labour orientated research, curriculum development and teaching at universities and other research institutions • Strengthening partnerships between universities and trade unions on national level • Skills development for individual trade unionists • Stimulating young people to study global labour policies
