In 1453, the Ottomans unleashed a formidable weapon in their attack: a massive 27-foot bronze cannon weighing an astounding 20 tons—equivalent to 10 cars! With a barrel diameter of 30 inches, this colossal cannon was large enough for a grown man to crawl inside. It fired 1,500-pound stone cannonballs using 150 pounds of gunpowder, capable of hitting targets over a mile away. However, due to the intense heat from firing, it could only be used once every three hours, and despite attempts to protect it, the cannon eventually split, injuring nearby soldiers.

The intense heat created by the blast means the cannon can only be fired once every 3 hours.
Despite soaking the barrel in warm oil to prevent cold air from causing cracks, the cannon eventually split apart killing and wounding those nearest.
