  1. How does Biogas Production Take Place? Over the past few years, the Indian government has encouraged bio-gas production a lot and with Indian populace getting more aware of the benefits, it is becoming the new rage. The number of biogas plants in India has increased exponentially over the past few years. Since it is a renewable and eco-friendly fuel which can be utilized for a variety of purposes and applications such as industrial applications and vehicles, it has to gain rapid popularity. Made from local raw-materials also called feedstock, biogas production is not the only environment- friendly, but also cheaper and hassle-free. Biogas production involves several stages and sub-stages. 1.Organic Waste is indispensable to bio-gas production and hence first the waste has to be crushed into smaller pieces. The waste is then made into liquid slurry by addition of water to prepare it for anaerobic digestion. Turning the waste into slurry makes the anaerobic digestion process easier. The slurry is then heated to around 40 °C because microbes need warm conditions. Microbes feeding on organic play a pivotal role in the biogas production process. 2.Anaerobic digestion, which is actually where the biogas production happens, takes place in large tanks known as digesters or Bio Reactors. 3.The slurry remains in the digester for a retention period of about 21-25 days which is the time required for the Anaerobic Digestion process. 4.The final stage is the biogas refining stage which is also known as biogas upgradation

  2. What Materials are Considered Suitable for BioGas Production? A variety of raw materials/feedstocks can be used for the production of biogas. Particularly in cities and villages, food waste, from residences, hotels, and restaurants can be used as a feedstock for biogas production. In addition, gas from Sewage treatment plants, waste from sugar mills, cattle manure, poultry waste, and agricultural waste can also be used as raw material. Biogas Production Stages at a Glance The raw material is taken to the biogas production facility where the crushing takes place and water that encapsulates nutrients is mixed with the feedstock. Before the raw material is crushed it has to be segregated and only the organic fraction can be used. The inorganic waste such as plastics and metals has to remove in order to prevent problems in the digestion process. The inorganic waste can also be used to generate electricity or Refuse-derived fuel. Organic Biomass that has been converted into slurry is then sent for the digestion process. Before digestion, it is pumped into a pre-digester tank for mixing, where the biomass is further processed to offer uniform consistency in the main digester.
